About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI technology organization seeking a Manager, Applied AI Engineering to lead a technical team focused on AI-powered software development solutions. This role is based in Munich, Germany, operating on a hybrid schedule (3 days per week in office). Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

Our client's applied engineering team partners with customers to integrate advanced AI capabilities into production software development workflows. As a manager, you will lead engineers who work hands-on with customer organizations to design, implement, and scale AI-enhanced development processes, agentic systems, and tooling that transforms how engineering teams build software.

Responsibilities

• Lead, hire, and develop a high-performing team of Applied AI Engineers supporting strategic enterprise accounts
• Define and own the technical engagement strategy that drives customers from exploration to scaled AI adoption in software development
• Guide your team in designing AI-enhanced workflows, agentic systems, automations, and evaluation frameworks for customer engineering organizations
• Serve as senior technical escalation point for complex implementation challenges and architectural decisions
• Partner cross-functionally with sales, product, and engineering teams to align customer outcomes with technical roadmaps
• Establish repeatable technical patterns, reference architectures, and best practices that enable broader AI adoption
• Coach engineers to operate as trusted advisors to customer engineering leaders and technical executives
• Synthesize customer insights and translate them into actionable product and technical feedback
• Champion safe, reliable, and effective AI integration across diverse industry verticals

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years in deeply technical, customer-facing roles such as applied engineering, solutions architecture, deployment engineering, or technical consulting
• 2+ years leading and developing technical teams, including hiring and mentoring engineers
• Hands-on experience building or deploying generative AI, developer platforms, agentic systems, or cloud software in production environments
• Strong software engineering background with fluency in languages such as Python or JavaScript
• Deep understanding of modern software development lifecycles and how AI can enhance design, build, test, and maintenance processes
• Ability to work directly with customer engineering teams to solve ambiguous problems and deliver working technical solutions
• Excellent communication skills for translating complex technical concepts to both engineers and executive stakeholders
• Comfort operating in fast-moving, ambiguous environments while building new operating models and technical patterns
• Strong ownership, technical judgment, humility, and commitment to team and customer success
• Personal commitment to responsible AI development and deployment
