Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe is seeking a Corporate Counsel to join its legal team in Flandreau, SD, serving the Rapid City, Pennington County region.
About the Role
This full‑time position reports to the Interim Tribal Attorney General and focuses on providing legal support for the Tribe’s economic development initiatives and tribal enterprises.
What You'll Do
- Advise tribal leadership on legal matters related to business ventures, including gaming, hospitality, and emerging industries.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and memoranda of understanding for tribal businesses such as Royal River Casino & Hotel.
- Ensure compliance with tribal, state, and federal regulations governing economic development and tribal enterprises.
- Represent the Tribe in administrative proceedings, negotiations, and, when necessary, litigation.
- Collaborate with external counsel and tribal departments to mitigate risk and support strategic growth.
- Stay current on changes in Indian law, gaming law, and corporate governance that affect the Tribe’s operations.
What We're Looking For
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with a state bar; eligibility for admission to the Tribal Bar of the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe is preferred.
- Experience in corporate law, tribal law, gaming regulation, or economic development is advantageous.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a tribal government setting and respect tribal sovereignty and cultural values.
