Commission on Social Witness

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential nonprofit organization in their search for commission members to guide collective social witness initiatives. This is a volunteer leadership role focused on amplifying social justice work, building coalitions, and centering marginalized voices in advocacy and action.

We are seeking individuals who bring lived experience, passion for equity, and a commitment to anti-oppressive practices. This four-year term involves 12–16 virtual meetings annually and occasional travel for events and gatherings.

Responsibilities

• Build authentic relationships with grassroots organizations and marginalized communities through outreach, meetings, and coalition-building
• Center the voices and leadership of people most impacted by systemic oppression in all commission processes, planning, and public communications
• Develop innovative feedback mechanisms to engage congregational and community leaders
• Amplify stories of justice-oriented work and social action across the organization's network
• Participate in the organization's annual gathering (in-person or virtual) to facilitate workshops, guide decision-making processes, and present reports
• Organize and participate in events throughout the year that strengthen connections among members engaged in social witness

What We're Looking For

• A genuine desire to learn, grow, and receive constructive feedback in anti-oppressive, multicultural, and intergenerational settings
• Willingness to offer compassionate, honest feedback to peers and partners
• Comfort with ambiguity and experimentation as the commission evolves its practices
• Ability to participate in 12–16 virtual meetings per year (1–3 hours each) via Zoom or phone; live transcription available
• Availability for up to three domestic trips annually (travel support provided)
• Commitment to a four-year term (renewable once, with a four-year gap before re-appointment)
• Strong preference for candidates from historically marginalized communities

Pay
