Chief Administrative Officer

Working America Associa is hiring a Chief Administrative Officer to lead operational excellence at our Rosslyn, Arlington County headquarters. This full-time position oversees the administrative and organizational systems that enable us to serve our five million members and advance economic justice across urban, suburban, and rural America.

About the Role

The Chief Administrative Officer will drive the operational backbone of our organization, ensuring Working America Associa runs effectively as we mobilize workers without union representation to fight for fair wages and economic power. Based in Rosslyn, you'll direct administrative strategy, financial management, compliance, and human resources while partnering with our leadership team and Board. Your work will directly support our mission as the community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, enabling us to scale our impact as America's workers organize for change.

Responsibilities

• Direct administrative operations, financial planning, and budget management across all departments
• Establish and maintain compliance frameworks, governance structures, and risk management protocols
• Lead human resources strategy, including recruitment, talent development, and organizational culture
• Implement operational systems and processes that enable organizational growth and efficiency
• Manage relationships with key stakeholders, funders, and partner organizations
• Report to executive leadership and Board on operational performance and strategic initiatives

Skills & Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive experience in administrative operations, organizational management, or nonprofit leadership
• Proven ability to lead complex operations across multiple departments and stakeholder groups
• Strong financial management expertise and comfort with budgeting and fiscal accountability
• Knowledge of nonprofit compliance, governance, and regulatory requirements
• Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities
• Commitment to social and economic justice, labor organizing, or mission-driven work highly valued
