Brokerage Agent, Imports

Expeditors is seeking a full-time Brokerage Agent specializing in imports to join our Laredo, TX office. In this customer-facing role, you'll navigate the complex world of customs regulations and logistics to help businesses move goods across borders smoothly.

Role Overview

As a Brokerage Agent for imports at Expeditors, you will be the critical link between clients and customs authorities. You'll manage import documentation, coordinate with port and border operations, and ensure all shipments clear customs efficiently. Your expertise in regulations and attention to detail will directly impact how quickly goods reach their destination—and your clients' bottom line.

Your Responsibilities

• Prepare and file accurate customs entry documents, declarations, and permits for import shipments
• Communicate with clients to gather documentation and answer questions about the import process
• Monitor shipment status and coordinate with customs officials, carriers, and warehouse partners
• Identify and resolve compliance issues, documentation gaps, or clearance delays
• Maintain organized records of all import transactions and keep clients updated on progress
• Stay current on changing tariff codes, trade agreements, and regulatory requirements

Qualifications

• Prior experience in customs brokerage, freight forwarding, or trade compliance (or equivalent background in regulated logistics)
• Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs and Border Protection regulations and import procedures
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously
• Professional communication skills, both written and verbal, for client interaction
• Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in documentation
• Ability to work independently and solve problems as they arise
