Backend Engineer – Agentic AI (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology-driven organization in the professional services sector that is building an AI agent platform to transform how their industry operates. Our client has developed a proprietary multi-agent system using LangGraph, PostgreSQL, and Next.js, and is now scaling their technical team to accelerate platform development.

Their AI team currently includes one developer, a product manager, and a head of AI. The foundational architecture is in place and parts of their platform and multi-agent system are already running in production. As their second backend engineer, you will own the technical foundation alongside the existing developer and help define the future of their industry-leading platform.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the core platform that serves as the operational backbone for the organization, working in rapid development cycles with direct user feedback
• Build and orchestrate AI agent systems that transform end-to-end workflows, including self-learning loops and multi-agent coordination
• Shape system architecture decisions including workflows, data models, interfaces, compliance requirements, and technology stack choices
• Design and evolve database architecture encompassing both relational and vector databases
• Integrate AI/ML models into production systems with a strong understanding of model behavior, performance, and limitations
• Translate business and user requirements into technical solutions before implementation

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 3+ years of software development experience
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Python, PostgreSQL, Docker, Git, and LangGraph/GitHub
• Proven experience developing backend systems with frameworks such as FastAPI, Spring Boot, or NestJS
• Hands-on experience with container-based and cloud-native architectures (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS or similar)
• 1+ years building AI agents and components including memory systems, context engineering, retrieval mechanisms, and orchestration using frameworks like LangChain, CrewAI, or LangGraph
• German language skills at C1 level preferred; B2 level acceptable with commitment to reach C1 within first year
• Must be based in Germany

Preferred qualifications:

• Strong data competency including SQL, API design, schema design, and query optimization
• Product engineering mindset with ability to evaluate requirements from business and user perspectives
• Experience with event-driven architecture (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar)
• Familiarity with agentic development tools (Claude Code, Codex, or similar)
