Astranis seeks an Assembly, Integration, and Test Technician to join our full-time production team in San Francisco. You'll work hands-on building and validating satellites that provide critical communications infrastructure to enterprises and governments worldwide.

Role Overview

As an Assembly, Integration, and Test Technician, you'll be instrumental in taking satellite components from procurement through final validation. Your work spans mechanical and electrical assembly, integration of complex subsystems, and execution of rigorous test protocols. You'll work in a structured, procedurally-driven environment where precision and attention to detail ensure mission success.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Build spacecraft and support equipment by assembling, integrating, and testing components according to engineering specifications and approved procedures
  • Install and connect mechanical assemblies, RF systems, antenna arrays, electronics modules, wire harnesses, and thermal protection systems
  • Prepare and execute functional and environmental test procedures using calibrated test equipment
  • Perform load handling, positioning, and safeguarding of spacecraft during assembly and testing phases
  • Conduct subsystem validation tests covering power distribution, command and telemetry links, thermal performance, and propulsion systems
  • Operate specialized equipment including pressure test stations and handling systems
  • Document assembly steps, connector installations, test results, and quality checkpoints with meticulous record-keeping
  • Partner with engineering teams to refine build documentation and procedures based on hands-on insights

Requirements

  • Minimum two years in assembly, manufacturing, production support, or equipment maintenance roles
  • Proficiency reading and following technical drawings, test specifications, and procedural documentation
  • Capability to work productively in controlled, cleanroom manufacturing environments
  • Experience with heavy equipment operation such as cranes, aerial lifts, tugs, and positioning systems
  • Practical skill with hand tools, precision torque instruments, and PC-based systems
  • Reliable communication and collaborative problem-solving in team settings
  • Physical capability for sustained climbing, standing, reaching, grasping, and controlled movement; ability to safely lift 25 pounds or more
  • Flexibility to support production schedules including early and second shift work, overtime, and weekend availability as needed
  • Willingness to travel for launch-site processing and environmental test campaigns
  • Must have authorization to legally work in the United States; U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or other protected status under federal law is required due to export control regulations governing space technology

Preferred qualifications include aerospace industry background, hands-on experience with spaceflight components, familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic systems, proficiency with electrical test equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes, and knowledge of environmental testing practices including vibration, thermal, and vacuum chamber operations.
