The Vancouver Humane Society is looking for an Admissions Specialist to join its team in Parkrose, Multnomah County. This full‑time, FLSA‑nonexempt role is central to the intake process, helping animals receive a safe start toward care and adoption.
About the Role
As an Admissions Specialist, you will be the first point of contact for animals entering the shelter and for members of the public seeking assistance. You will ensure that each intake is handled with compassion, accuracy, and adherence to organizational policies.
What You'll Do
- Receive and process incoming animals, documenting breed, age, health status, and any special needs.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records in the shelter’s management system.
- Communicate clearly with finders, owners, and transfer partners, providing information and next‑step guidance.
- Coordinate with veterinary and animal care teams to ensure timely health assessments and vaccinations.
- Assist with public inquiries via phone, email, and in‑person visits, offering resources on pet surrender, stray reporting, and adoption.
- Help keep the admissions area clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
- Participate in training sessions and stay current on best practices for animal handling and data entry.
What We're Looking For
- Experience in customer service, animal care, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when recording information.
- Ability to remain calm and compassionate in stressful or emotional situations.
- Basic computer proficiency, including data entry and familiarity with shelter management software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with diverse audiences.
- Commitment to the humane treatment of animals and alignment with the shelter’s mission.
- Availability to work a full‑time schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
