Join City Year in Magnolia as an Academic Tutor & Mentor, an entry-level, paid, full-time AmeriCorps position dedicated to supporting student success in local schools. As a member of our mission-driven team in Columbia County, you'll work directly with students to improve academic outcomes, build confidence, and foster the skills they need to thrive.

About the Role

As an Academic Tutor & Mentor with City Year, you'll be embedded in a school community, providing direct support to students, teachers, and families. This full-time position combines tutoring, mentoring, and coaching to help students overcome academic and personal barriers to success. You'll collaborate with school staff and City Year team members to ensure every student receives the high-quality academic support and encouragement they deserve.

What You'll Do

• Deliver one-on-one and small-group tutoring in core academic subjects to help students achieve grade-level proficiency
• Build meaningful mentoring relationships with students, providing guidance on study habits, time management, and goal-setting
• Support classroom instruction by assisting teachers with student engagement and academic interventions
• Connect with families to communicate student progress and encourage home support for learning
• Track and document student progress, sharing updates with school partners and City Year leadership
• Participate in team activities and professional development to strengthen your impact and grow as an educator

What We're Looking For

• Passion for education and commitment to helping students from all backgrounds succeed
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build trust with students and families
• Reliable transportation and willingness to work in a school-based setting in Magnolia, Columbia County
• Entry-level experience or education background in tutoring, mentoring, or student support
• High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework or bachelor's degree preferred
• Flexibility, patience, and a growth mindset; comfort adapting to student needs
