Join City Year in Addison, Dallas as an Academic Tutor & Mentor in a full-time, paid entry-level position. As part of our AmeriCorps program, you'll directly impact student success by providing personalized academic support and mentorship within schools across our community.
About the Role
In this position, you'll be a dedicated academic coach working one-on-one and in small groups with students to strengthen their learning outcomes. Your mission is to help students build confidence, develop essential academic skills, and stay on track toward graduation. You'll work closely with teachers and school staff to align your support with classroom instruction and school-wide priorities.
What You'll Do
- Provide targeted academic tutoring in core subjects aligned with student needs and classroom curriculum
- Conduct progress assessments and adjust learning strategies based on student performance
- Mentor students to build self-advocacy skills, study habits, and academic resilience
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to identify students needing additional support and track outcomes
- Build positive relationships with students to foster engagement and motivation
- Support school initiatives and classroom activities that strengthen the overall learning environment
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Genuine passion for student success and educational equity
- Ability to work collaboratively with school staff and diverse student populations
- Reliability, punctuality, and commitment to making a measurable difference
- Willingness to learn and grow within a structured mentoring environment
