About the Role
As an Academic Tutor & Mentor with City Year, you'll serve as a catalyst for student achievement within local schools. You'll work as part of a purposeful team providing one-on-one and small group academic support, mentorship, and encouragement to help students build confidence and reach their educational potential. Your work will extend beyond tutoring—you'll strengthen classroom dynamics, support teachers, and help create an environment where every student thrives.
What You'll Do
- Deliver personalized tutoring in core academic subjects to help students close learning gaps and master grade-level standards
- Build meaningful mentoring relationships, providing guidance on academics, social skills, and personal growth
- Collaborate with teachers and school staff to identify student needs and align support with classroom instruction
- Track student progress and adjust your approach based on individual learning styles and growth
- Foster a supportive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and celebrates success
- Engage with families and school communities to reinforce student achievement beyond the classroom
