Extracurricular Internship: Embedded Software Engineer – eBike (f/m/div.)

Join Bosch Group as an Extracurricular Embedded Software Engineer focused on eBike technology, working remotely whilst contributing to our Ovar, Portugal engineering centre. This full-time internship programme offers hands-on experience developing embedded software for electric bicycle systems.

Role Overview

We're seeking a motivated software engineer to develop embedded systems for next-generation eBikes. You'll collaborate with our Ovar engineering team on real-world challenges in electric mobility, with the flexibility to work remotely. This internship provides practical experience in firmware development, microcontroller programming, and the electric vehicle transition.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimise embedded software for eBike motor controllers, battery management systems, and sensor integration
• Write efficient, maintainable C/C++ code targeting microcontroller and embedded Linux platforms
• Participate in design reviews, implementation, unit testing, and hardware-in-the-loop debugging
• Collaborate with electrical engineers and product teams to integrate software with hardware subsystems
• Diagnose and resolve firmware issues through systematic troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
• Document code, architecture decisions, and technical specifications for team knowledge transfer

Requirements

• Solid foundation in C or C++ programming for embedded systems
• Understanding of microcontroller architectures, compilers, and embedded development workflows
• Experience with real-time operating systems, bootloaders, or low-level hardware interfaces
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with commitment to code quality
• Genuine interest in electric mobility, automotive systems, or sustainable engineering
• Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in remote, distributed teams
• Fluent English (written and spoken)
