Agentic AI Engineer (Defence & Security)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential defence and security consultancy seeking an Agentic AI Engineer to join their AI and algorithms team. In this role, you will design and implement advanced AI solutions that search for, interpret, and analyse information while planning and acting to achieve defined objectives. You will take technical ownership of significant project components, delivering quality work to budget and schedule with minimal supervision.

Your responsibilities will include acting as technical authority or lead on smaller projects and contributing to the technical direction of larger initiatives. You will mentor and support less experienced engineers, helping them develop as technical consultants. Working directly with clients, you will understand their challenges, demonstrate what is possible, and build confidence in the team's capabilities.

You will contribute to proposals and help scope new work, translating client needs into credible technical approaches. Additionally, you will build demonstrators and internal capability that showcase expertise in defence, security, and adjacent markets.

What We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate brings 3+ years of experience designing and delivering cutting-edge AI solutions, including some experience developing agentic AI systems. You must possess strong Python programming skills and a solid grasp of modern software development practices.

A strong undergraduate degree in a relevant technical subject such as AI/machine learning, computer science, mathematics, or physics is required. You should have a proven track record of delivering quality technical work in a team environment and the ability to lead and mentor others.

An interest in working with clients and getting involved in proposals and sales conversations is essential. Most importantly, you must have a genuine affinity for working in the defence and security sector.

Security Clearance: This role requires UK security clearance. You must be eligible to obtain Security Check (SC) level security clearance and be able to work in the UK without restrictions in accordance with UK National Law. Some projects will require full-time working in the office.
