M&A Lead (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential professional services firm in München that is building a platform through strategic acquisitions. Our client is seeking an M&A Lead to drive their buy-and-build pipeline from origination through closing. This is a direct-to-leadership role where you will own the transaction process for multiple deals annually, working lean and leveraging AI to replace what would traditionally require a full analyst team.

You will lead deal sourcing, financial due diligence, valuation, negotiation, and handoff to integration—reporting directly to executive management. This role is designed for someone who wants to build an M&A function from the ground up rather than support deals passively within a large hierarchy.

Responsibilities

• Identify, screen, and qualify acquisition targets against strategic criteria; maintain and develop the M&A pipeline in CRM
• Build relationships with business owners considering a sale—approaching conversations with respect, patience, and partnership rather than transactional formality
• Prepare indicative valuations, business cases, and data room structures for each target
• Lead financial due diligence independently—conducting analysis, presenting findings, and coordinating with finance during peak review periods
• Manage LOI and SPA processes in collaboration with in-house legal; maintain deal timelines and drive closings
• Transition completed transactions to integration teams with clear 100-day plans and documented synergy commitments
• Leverage AI tools extensively for research, valuation modeling, data room analysis, and documentation to work efficiently without a supporting team
• Progress from co-leading seller conversations with leadership to conducting them independently within 6–12 months

What We're Looking For

Required Background:

• Transaction experience from a Big Four firm (Deals, Transaction Advisory, or M&A practice) as Senior Manager, or strong track record as an emerging audit professional with demonstrated transaction focus
• Proven experience leading—not just supporting—financial due diligence processes independently
• Hands-on involvement in deal negotiations and purchase agreement processes from approach through closing
• Fluency in valuation methodologies and financial due diligence execution

Essential Skills:

• Mastery of valuation and financial DD fundamentals with ability to leverage AI for work traditionally requiring analyst teams
• Ability to work with structure and precision under tight timelines—condensing weeks of work into days without sacrificing quality
• Dual communication capability: technical precision in data rooms and warm, peer-level dialogue with business owners discussing their life's work
• Active use of AI as a standard working tool for analysis, modeling, and documentation
• Fluent German and professional English

• 24 months: Five to ten closed transactions with measurable value contribution; autonomous execution with leadership involvement only where relationships require it
