Senior Backend Engineer (Golang)

Gigmile is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer (Golang) to drive the development of scalable backend systems across the United States. In this full-time position, you'll architect and build the APIs, databases, and core services that power our platform, working with a team committed to transforming financial services and vehicle access for gig economy workers.

Position Summary

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Gigmile, you'll serve as a technical pillar responsible for building and evolving the backend infrastructure that underpins our applications. Your work will span designing distributed systems capable of handling enterprise-scale load, securing sensitive financial and user data, integrating complex third-party systems, and providing technical guidance to junior engineers. You'll own the full lifecycle of backend systems—from architecture and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and optimization—and collaborate closely with product, frontend, and infrastructure teams to deliver reliable, performant solutions.

Your Responsibilities

• Build and optimize server-side services and APIs that support web and mobile applications, using modern backend architectures and patterns.
• Design systems and infrastructure capable of scaling reliably as user load and transaction volume increase, maintaining performance and stability.
• Create efficient database schemas, write high-performance queries, and implement strategies to maintain data integrity across distributed systems.
• Develop and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs, ensuring seamless integration between backend services and client-facing applications.
• Implement encryption, authentication, authorization, and other security measures to protect user data and comply with regulatory requirements.
• Partner with frontend engineers to integrate user-facing features with backend logic and ensure smooth end-to-end functionality.
• Establish and enforce code quality standards through reviews, documentation, and ongoing knowledge sharing.
• Guide and develop junior backend engineers, sharing expertise and helping them grow their technical capabilities.
• Participate in all phases of product development, from planning and design through testing, release, and ongoing support.
• Monitor production systems, investigate performance issues, and implement fixes to ensure reliable service delivery.

Who We're Looking For

• A minimum of 5 years of professional backend development experience, with demonstrated expertise building scalable distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Golang, Java, C++, or similar server-side programming languages.
• Deep familiarity with REST and GraphQL API design, development, and integration patterns.
• Hands-on experience designing and optimizing both relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL data stores (MongoDB, Redis).
• Demonstrated competence with cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Solid understanding of microservices architecture, service-oriented design, and decoupled system patterns.
• Working knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies, particularly Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
• Strong grasp of security principles, including data protection, API authentication and authorization (OAuth 2.0, JWT), and secure coding practices.
• Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog for monitoring and debugging production systems.
• Proficiency with Git and modern version control workflows.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
