Migrations Architect

Responsibilities

Our talent team is representing a confidential energy-tech organisation seeking a Migrations Architect to join their Client Delivery function. This is a technical leadership position focused on designing, planning, and building data migration solutions for platform deployments across Europe and beyond.

In this role, you will:

• Lead source system and data architecture analysis to understand client legacy systems, data models, integrations, and business processes
• Define source-to-target data mappings between legacy structures and the target platform, including transformation rules, defaults, and gap handling
• Design end-to-end migration solutions covering extraction, transformation, validation, loading, reconciliation, and exception management
• Consult with clients on data extraction strategies, defining specifications, formats, sequencing, and quality expectations
• Collaborate with engineering teams to define requirements for migration tooling, APIs, ETL processes, and validation frameworks
• Apply expertise in APIs, integration patterns, ETL/ELT processes, and large-scale data pipelines to create scalable migration approaches
• Establish data quality controls and validation rules across all migration phases
• Design reconciliation frameworks to demonstrate completeness and accuracy of migrated data
• Architect client-specific migration solutions and present technical design decisions clearly to stakeholders
• Develop migration strategies including cohorts, sequencing, volumes, frequency, and migration windows
• Assess performance, scalability, and system constraints to ensure migrations meet throughput requirements
• Define migration testing approaches across component, integration, end-to-end, and production readiness phases
• Design technical cutover approaches including sequencing, dependencies, rollback strategies, and monitoring
• Act as technical authority throughout migration implementation and live execution
• Lead investigation of complex migration failures and data issues, driving appropriate resolution
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications and acceptance criteria
• Support commercial proposals with migration architecture elements, feasibility assessments, and complexity analysis
• Produce high-quality architecture documentation, specifications, and reusable standards
• Build migration capability across teams through knowledge sharing and technical mentoring

The role requires 9-12 business trips per year for commercial and deployment activities.

What We're Looking For

We seek a hands-on, analytical problem-solver who excels at translating complex client needs into practical, scalable solutions. You should be comfortable working with large, diverse datasets and possess a strong understanding of enterprise systems.

Essential experience:

• Proven track record in data migration programmes with specific experience developing ETL processes
• Technical or engineering leadership experience with demonstrated leadership qualities
• Expertise in data analysis and management
• Strong systems architecture and software development background
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical audiences
• Experience delivering impactful presentations as part of commercial activities

Highly desirable:

• Technical experience in the energy industry or utilities sector

Location and visa: This position is based in Bristol or London, UK (hybrid, 3 days per week in office). You must have existing right to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role at this time.
