Head of Risk

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential digital assets firm in their search for a Head of Risk based in London. Our client is a global organization operating across centralized and decentralized trading venues, with a sophisticated approach to capital markets spanning market making, derivatives, and asset management. This is a senior leadership position with direct accountability for building and enforcing the firm's enterprise-wide risk framework.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a quantitative risk framework grounded in modern risk theory, including market, credit, liquidity and systemic risk modeling, leveraging tail risk analysis, extreme value theory, dependence structures and stress testing
• Co-design and implement the firm-wide risk management system architecture in collaboration with senior leadership, including data infrastructure, risk aggregation layers, real-time monitoring capabilities and reporting systems across all business lines
• Build an integrated risk view across centralized and decentralized venues, covering exchange risk, counterparty risk, smart contract risk, collateral efficiency and liquidity fragmentation
• Define and implement advanced risk metrics including VaR, Expected Shortfall, stress scenarios, liquidity-adjusted risk and concentration risk, ensuring consistent application across trading, treasury and investment activities
• Translate traditional financial risk methodologies into crypto-native environments, adapting models to account for 24/7 markets, fragmented liquidity, funding dynamics, on-chain transparency and emerging failure modes such as oracle risk and protocol risk
• Set the standard for risk culture across the organization, challenging business practices and enforcing disciplined risk-taking while enabling the firm to scale

What We're Looking For

• Quantitative risk expertise: Strong foundation in quantitative risk management with hands-on experience in market risk, credit risk and liquidity risk modeling, ideally aligned with academic frameworks in quantitative risk management
• Modeling and analytical skills: Demonstrated ability to design and implement risk models including tail risk estimation, scenario analysis, stress testing frameworks and dependence modeling across asset classes
• System design experience: Proven track record designing or co-designing firm-wide risk systems, working closely with technology and operations teams to translate risk requirements into scalable infrastructure
• Hybrid TradFi and crypto experience: Experience operating at the intersection of traditional financial markets and digital assets (both centralized and decentralized), with strong understanding of differences in market structure, risk transmission and infrastructure
• Crypto-specific risk knowledge: Practical understanding of crypto-specific risks including exchange/custodian risk, smart contract risk, protocol risk, funding/basis dynamics and collateral management in both centralized and decentralized environments
• Leadership qualities: Strong drive and proactivity with a focus on quantitative system-building rather than purely reporting functions; ability to operate autonomously while collaborating across senior leadership
