About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential sports technology organization seeking a Senior Software Engineer on a contract basis. This is a fully remote position based in Hungary, available to start immediately. Our client delivers digital experiences to millions of sports fans worldwide and needs an experienced backend engineer to strengthen their technical delivery capabilities.
This is a hands-on, project-focused role with no people management responsibilities—ideal for an engineer who wants to concentrate on building robust, high-performance systems in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable backend systems using Java and Spring Boot
- Build and maintain RESTful APIs that support web and mobile applications
- Deliver well-structured, maintainable, and testable code aligned with project requirements
- Integrate with third-party data providers for sports content, video, and commentary feeds
- Manage code versioning using Git and contribute to shared repositories
- Handle deployments across multiple environments including development, test, staging, and production
- Ensure systems meet performance, security, and resilience standards
- Identify and manage technical dependencies at the project level
- Participate in sprint planning and delivery-focused team meetings
- Write and maintain technical documentation for APIs and backend components
- Contribute to code reviews and uphold development best practices
What We're Looking For
Expert-level knowledge required:
- Java 11 or higher
- Spring Boot and Spring Framework (version 5+)
- JPA/Hibernate and ORM principles
- Microservice architecture design and implementation
- RESTful API design and development
- Git version control for collaborative development
- JSON and structured data handling
- Unit testing with frameworks such as JUnit
- Task management tools like JIRA
- Technical documentation writing for APIs and backend systems
Strong proficiency required:
- SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar)
- Kafka or other event-driven messaging platforms
- Docker containerization
- Kubernetes orchestration
- AWS services including S3, Lambda, and EC2
- Maven for build and dependency management
- CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
Basic understanding helpful:
- Python for scripting and integrations
- Frontend technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for integration context
