Product Engineering Tech Lead

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI infrastructure organization seeking a Product Engineering Tech Lead in Berlin. Our client operates at the intersection of enterprise AI and cloud-native systems, and this role will own the execution layer that powers their customers' production AI workloads—from serverless pipelines to long-running autonomous agents.

This is a builder role with founder-level ownership. You'll architect and scale a serverless execution platform to enterprise grade, lead the engineering team responsible for it, and own reliability end-to-end. You sit where backend engineering, platform operations, and product strategy converge.

Responsibilities

• Own the serverless execution platform: architect and scale the system that runs AI pipelines and agents reliably at enterprise concurrency, ensuring identical behavior whether invoked serverless or deployed as a service
• Build durability into the platform: design fault-tolerant execution that survives node evictions, spot terminations, and rolling deploys, keeping long-running agents alive for hours
• Own streaming and long-lived connections: manage WebSocket or SSE workloads under production pressure, including backpressure handling, graceful shutdown, and reconnect logic for both end users and API clients
• Lead technical direction and architecture: make hard tradeoffs, translate product strategy into scalable systems, and remain hands-on with the most critical problems
• Make reliability provable: own observability, tracing, alerting, per-customer metering, and cost visibility; manage on-call and incident response to close the loop between build and operate

What We're Looking For

• Builder and founder mindset: you've started projects, shipped them, and lived with the operational consequences; startup or founder experience strongly preferred
• Production Kubernetes experience: you've built and operated systems on Kubernetes from the ground up, not just maintained existing infrastructure
• Durable execution systems: hands-on experience with fault-tolerant execution patterns—retries, failover, durable state, human-in-the-loop workflows
• Serverless platforms at scale: deep knowledge of Knative, KEDA, OpenFaaS, Fission, or similar; you understand scale-to-zero, warm pools, cold start tradeoffs, and per-request isolation
• Streaming and long-running workloads: production experience with server-sent events or WebSockets, maintaining long-lived connections through deploys and node churn; agentic or AI workloads a plus
• Operator instinct: observability, alerting, SLOs, and incident response are second nature; you hold systems to production-grade standards
• Technical leadership: you can lead a team, set architectural direction, and make technical decisions legible to engineering and business stakeholders
• Strong Python skills and infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform or similar) in cloud-native environments

Nice to have: Kubernetes operator or controller development, zero-to-one platform ownership through production maturity, open source contributions, B2B SaaS or LLM infrastructure exposure
