About This Role

We are representing a confidential healthcare technology organization that is transforming how preventative care is delivered globally. Our client is seeking a Lighting Design Lead to establish and steward their worldwide lighting design standards across multiple clinical locations.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the sensory experience of healthcare environments at scale. You'll define how lighting supports both clinical excellence and human experience, working at the intersection of design innovation, spatial strategy, and global standardization.

Based in London, you'll partner with architecture, industrial design, medical, and operations teams to create lighting systems that are scalable, consistent, and clinically appropriate across diverse geographies.

Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive global lighting design standards covering clinical scanning rooms, consultation spaces, waiting areas, circulation, and back-of-house zones
• Document lighting specifications in scalable design playbooks that regional teams can implement consistently
• Provide concept-level creative guidance to architecture teams delivering projects across multiple regions
• Serve as brand guardian for lighting strategy, reviewing consultant documentation and ensuring alignment with organizational design principles
• Drive lighting innovation for next-generation clinical environments and new facility typologies
• Collaborate with hardware, software, medical excellence, and operations teams to ensure lighting decisions are technically sound and functionally appropriate
• Establish vendor relationships and manage lighting product specification for multi-site rollout
• Balance human-centered design with clinical requirements, building codes, and sustainability considerations

What We're Looking For

Essential qualifications:

• Degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Interior Design, or related discipline
• 8+ years of architectural lighting design experience with portfolio demonstrating layered, human-centered work across varied project types
• Proven track record developing lighting standards, guidelines, or playbooks for multi-site or global organizations
• Deep technical knowledge of LED systems, lighting controls, and integration with building management systems
• Experience collaborating with architects, interior designers, and engineering teams to integrate lighting seamlessly
• Proficiency in lighting design software (DIALux, Relux, AGi32) and familiarity with rendering tools
• Strong understanding of lighting standards and codes including EN 12464, WELL Building Standard criteria, and healthcare-specific requirements
• Excellent communication skills with ability to articulate lighting intent to both creative and technical audiences
• Comfort working in fast-scaling environments where standards and processes are evolving

Preferred experience:

• Lighting design for branded retail, hospitality, or experiential environments at scale
• Interactive or dynamic lighting solutions
• Lighting product specification and procurement for multi-site programs, including vendor management and cost optimization
• Sustainability focus including energy efficiency, lifecycle costs, and circular design principles
