Data Platform Engineer (f/m/d) for the European AI Factory HammerHAI

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential high-performance computing organization in the Garching bei München area. They are building a cutting-edge AI infrastructure facility as part of a European initiative, and we're seeking a Data Platform Engineer to develop and maintain the data systems that power advanced AI and analytics workloads.

This is a full-time position with flexible working arrangements, including up to 60% remote work for suitable tasks. The contract runs through Q1 2028 with strong intent for continuation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain data facility infrastructure and software environments supporting AI, high-performance computing, and data analytics use cases
• Contribute to evolving service portfolios within an international, collaborative team environment
• Enable customers to publish, access, and share AI datasets and models through robust platform capabilities
• Build and maintain relationships with European AI ecosystem partners and stakeholders
• Collaborate with national and European partners on novel AI research and development projects from both private and academic sectors
• Coordinate with technology providers and system developers on software and hardware integration

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• PhD or Master's degree in computer science, data science, or scientific computing; OR Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of applied data platform development, engineering, or deployment experience
• Extensive experience developing and working with data platforms and backend components for AI, HPC, and data analytics use cases
• Proficiency in data center environments including Linux, Git, and GitLab
• Deep knowledge of FAIR-aligned data management workflows (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable)
• Experience developing integration layers connecting data infrastructure with external platforms, preferably through metadata standards
• Knowledge of secure and compliant data management, including AI models, data privacy standards, and relevant legislation
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal; German proficiency preferred
• Commitment to staying current with AI technology developments

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with dataspaces, ideally within Common European Data Space initiatives
• Knowledge of software deployment and lifecycle management using CI/CD principles
• Software design and engineering skills
• IT and cybersecurity knowledge for software platform development
• Experience with agile development methodologies

Pay

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process and are competitive with public sector research positions at this level in Germany.
