BI Analyst – Semantic Layer

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential SaaS organization in a transformational data platform initiative. We are seeking a BI Analyst - Semantic Layer to join a small, high-impact team building the company's first governed semantic and metrics layer from the ground up. This is a hands-on technical role where you will author metric definitions as code, establish governance processes, and partner directly with business stakeholders to ensure data consistency across the enterprise.

This position is remote within the United States and offers the chance to make a lasting impact on how an organization defines, manages, and delivers trusted business metrics at scale.

Responsibilities

• Author and maintain semantic layer definitions hands-on, writing metric, dimension, and hierarchy definitions as code (SQL/YAML or modeling language) rather than specifications for others to implement
• Run the complete metric definition lifecycle including request, draft, review, certification, publication, versioned change control, and deprecation for every governed metric
• Own business glossary content in Atlan, maintaining definitions, context, and ownership tagging for glossary terms
• Audit and reconcile drift across tools to ensure metrics and terms maintain consistent meaning in the semantic layer, enterprise reporting tools, and data catalog
• Partner directly with department heads and analysts across the business to define new metrics, resolve definitional disagreements, and keep existing definitions current
• Drive data literacy through office hours, onboarding sessions, and enablement content to make governed data the easy default
• Define canonical hierarchy and rollup logic for high-fragmentation categorical data in partnership with engineering and product teams
• Publish governance and adoption scorecards reporting on governed-metric coverage, duplication retired, usage trends, and open definitional disputes

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
• 5+ years of experience in analytics engineering, business intelligence, or data governance with genuine hands-on SQL experience
• Direct hands-on experience authoring and maintaining models in a semantic or metrics layer tool (dbt Semantic Layer/MetricFlow, LookML, Cube, Omni, AtScale, or comparable) – must be comfortable working in actual model code
• Strong dimensional modeling fundamentals including star schema design, slowly changing dimensions, and understanding of join fan-out impacts on aggregate results
• Experience running metric or glossary governance processes with real business stakeholders outside the data team
• Experience with a data catalog tool for glossary and business-term content management (Atlan, Collibra, Alation, or similar)
• Excellent stakeholder management, facilitation, and training/enablement skills with ability to adjudicate disagreements and run literacy programs for non-technical audiences

Bonus Qualifications:

• Experience with Tableau or another enterprise BI tool as a content/definition owner
• Experience building canonical taxonomies or classification systems from messy or inconsistent source data
• Experience partnering directly with marketing, sales, or product stakeholders on cross-departmental KPI alignment
• Experience building a data governance or semantic layer program from zero to one

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai is competitive and based on experience, skills, and qualifications. The client's salary range for this role is $104,100–$130,150 annually, and some roles may be eligible for bonus and equity programs. Regular full-time positions include comprehensive benefits such as medical, dental, and vision healthcare plans, generous PTO, paid holidays, and a home office setup stipend.
