About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential financial technology company that has pioneered a transformative approach to markets and information discovery. Our client is expanding rapidly across the United States and needs an experienced government affairs professional to lead their Western regional strategy.

This is a unique opportunity to shape regulatory and legislative engagement across eight Western states, building the infrastructure and relationships that will define how our client operates in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, and Hawaii. You'll be the person on the ground, working with state officials and agencies to advance our client's interests in a complex and evolving regulatory landscape.

Responsibilities

• Own state-level policy strategy across the Western US region, tracking legislative calendars and identifying opportunities for engagement
• Monitor regulatory developments and initiatives that impact our client's business model
• Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, appointed regulators, legislative committees, and state agencies
• Advocate for and educate government stakeholders about our client's innovative product offering
• Draft and shape policy language for legislative and regulatory proposals
• Manage third-party consultants, lobbyists, and advocacy partners across multiple states
• Travel regularly to priority states to ensure in-person presence when critical decisions are being made
• Develop and execute sequenced campaigns tailored to each state's unique political environment

What We're Looking For

• Direct experience working inside state government, an Attorney General's office, or running state-level government affairs campaigns
• Background navigating novel or contested regulatory environments where policy frameworks are still emerging
• Deep familiarity with the political landscape of the Western United States, particularly California's regulatory complexity and Pacific Northwest legislative dynamics
• Proven ability to manage relationships with third-party vendors and consultants
• Strong instincts for policy language development and legislative drafting
• Willingness to travel extensively across the Western region and occasionally to the client's headquarters in New York
• Track record of building relationships with state officials and moving policy initiatives forward
• Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments where you need to build the playbook as you go
