Responsibilities
We are representing a confidential energy technology client for a Pre-Sales Senior Engineer position based in London or Bristol (hybrid). This is a unique technical role that sits between product engineering and go-to-market, where you'll build high-quality demo infrastructure and proof-of-concept systems using AI-accelerated development workflows.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- AI-Accelerated Prototyping: Leverage LLMs such as Claude and Gemini to rapidly scaffold, build, and iterate on proof-of-concept applications and mock services. You'll move faster than traditional development sprints by using AI to handle boilerplate and logic generation.
- Technical Asset Development: Design, build, and maintain reusable mock services in Node.js/TypeScript. Implement contract-first APIs (REST/GraphQL), manage AWS deployments (API Gateway, Containers), and handle persistence using PostgreSQL or DynamoDB.
- Infrastructure as Code: Manage demo environments using Terraform, ensuring environments are reproducible and secure using existing OIDC authentication patterns.
- Frontend Collaboration: Work closely with frontend engineers to ensure UI components integrate cleanly with your mock services, debugging integration issues and supporting end-to-end demo flows.
- Strategic Pre-Sales Support: Partner with pre-sales consultants to translate client requirements into working technical artefacts. Occasionally demo directly to clients, showcasing solutions to their specific challenges.
- Product & UX Influence: Collaborate with Design and Product teams while developing your own design ideas to showcase the platform's capabilities effectively.
- Mentorship & Standards: Set informal engineering standards for the pre-sales team, mentoring others on API design and architecture best practices.
- AI Evangelism: Act as the resident expert in GenAI workflows, mentoring others on how to use AI to bridge the gap between presentations and working software.
This role is not about shipping production code or pure presentation delivery—your value comes from building things that work convincingly for demos and client validation.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking a software engineer by trade but a prototyper by heart. You understand the rigour of clean code but know when to lean into AI to accelerate delivery. You're motivated by the immediate impact of winning new clients and validating value propositions in real-time.
Required qualifications:
- Software Engineering Foundation: Strong hands-on experience in Node.js/TypeScript and React. You know how to write code from scratch, which makes you excellent at prompting AI effectively.
- GenAI Power User: Deep experience leveraging LLMs and Generative AI to build applications, debug complex issues, and accelerate the development lifecycle. You're not just using an AI assistant—you're building complete PoCs with AI workflows.
- API Design Expert: Experience designing clean, well-documented APIs (REST and/or GraphQL) and using Git/GitHub workflows effectively.
- Cloud & Infrastructure Knowledge: Familiarity with AWS primitives and proven ability to deploy infrastructure using Terraform.
- Pragmatic & Autonomous: Comfortable operating with ambiguity, translating vague client requirements into working systems through high initiative.
What will set you apart:
- A track record of building internal tools, sales demos, or high-fidelity PoCs using AI-first workflows
- Understanding of challenges facing energy retailers or similar regulated industries
- Practical knowledge of OIDC-based authentication flows
- Talent for sharing UX/UI design thinking with wider product teams
Location requirements: This role is based in London or Bristol with a hybrid working model (3 days per week in office expected). Candidates must have existing right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
