Postgres Deployment Engineer (Nix)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential database platform organization seeking a Postgres Deployment Engineer (Nix) to join their PostgreSQL infrastructure team. This is a fully remote position open to candidates anywhere in the world.

Our client provides a comprehensive backend platform built on PostgreSQL, serving hundreds of thousands of developers globally. You'll play a critical role in ensuring the stability, deployment, and lifecycle management of PostgreSQL across their infrastructure.

This position focuses on owning deployment systems and acting as a bridge between product and infrastructure teams. You'll work with a public PostgreSQL repository that packages features into Docker images and cloud deployments, with a strong emphasis on transitioning to Nix-based packaging.

Responsibilities

• Package software using Nix (with flakes) and lead the transition from traditional packaging approaches to Nix-based systems
• Manage PostgreSQL lifecycles including major and minor version upgrades, extension updates, and compatibility maintenance
• Expand platform release systems to enable developer self-service capabilities
• Optimize CI/CD pipelines and tooling, particularly GitHub Actions, team tooling, and testing/release workflows
• Proactively identify and resolve production issues in customer deployments
• Maintain best practices, automated tests, and deployment standards to enhance stability and reduce risk
• Mentor engineering teams on Nix-based workflows and contribute to internal knowledge sharing

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of experience with PostgreSQL and its ecosystem, including extensions and performance optimization
• Proven infrastructure management expertise with tooling and optimization at scale
• Proficiency in Nix package management (including flakes) alongside Ansible, Packer, Docker, QEMU/KVM, AWS, and Kubernetes
• Experience building for multiple architectures, specifically Linux and Darwin/macOS aarch64 targets
• Comfort with polyglot build environments including C/C++, Go, JavaScript, and Rust-based projects
• Clear communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences, including customer-facing scenarios
• Experience working in asynchronous or globally distributed teams with strong independent problem-solving abilities
• Willingness to mentor and teach Nix-based approaches to engineering teams
