About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential global technology marketplace in their search for a Chief Technology Officer. This fully remote role serves markets across LATAM, Canada, and Europe, and requires a hands-on engineering executive who will place AI and agentic systems at the center of the technical architecture.

You will own the complete technology strategy, from foundation model selection and fine-tuning to production deployment of autonomous agents across core business workflows. This is not an oversight role—you will be in the code, in design reviews, driving execution, and setting the technical bar for a distributed engineering organization.

Responsibilities

You will own and execute the AI and platform technology strategy:

• Design and implement the company's AI architecture: model selection, fine-tuning, harness design, orchestration, retrieval, context engineering, tool integration, guardrails, evaluation frameworks, and cost controls
• Deploy agentic systems at scale across business-critical processes including matching, vetting, onboarding, and operations, with measurable outcomes on cost, cycle time, and quality
• Establish rigorous evaluation standards, regression suites, and review loops to ensure AI quality is proven through evidence, not claimed
• Transform engineering productivity by embedding AI-assisted development, review, testing, and operations into the team's workflow
• Own end-to-end platform architecture, including services, data flows, interfaces, system boundaries, and the standards that maintain coherence at scale
• Manage throughput, reliability, technical debt, build-versus-buy decisions, and the complete cost structure including inference and token spend
• Define resourcing and workforce planning: scope roadmaps into buildable work, plan headcount and sequencing, write specifications, and meet time-sensitive hiring commitments
• Set and hold the talent bar: assess the team honestly, develop engineers against high standards, and make the difficult calls when someone isn't clearing the bar
• Collaborate with product leadership to expose core business logic through modular interfaces the organization can build upon
• Work in a direct, high-cadence rhythm with the CEO, bringing strategic proposals rather than waiting for direction

First 90 days: You will assess the current engineering function and AI maturity, establish your leadership rhythm, present an unrequested strategy to the executive team, stand up shared AI architecture and evaluation frameworks, and put at least one agentic workflow into production with measured results.

First year: You will demonstrate business impact from agents in production across multiple core workflows, build a leadership team that raises the bar, and run an engineering organization recognized as among the most advanced in the industry.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field required; advanced degree strongly preferred
• 15+ years of progressive engineering leadership, including significant time as CTO, VP of Engineering, or direct report to one at meaningful scale
• Deep, current, hands-on expertise in modern AI engineering: foundation models, agentic architectures, harness design, retrieval, context engineering, fine-tuning, and evaluation—with a track record of shipping these in production
• Proven experience building and fine-tuning foundation models from the ground up
• Deployed agentic systems at scale against real business processes with quantified outcomes on cost, cycle time, quality, or revenue
• Rigorous approach to evaluation: you can explain precisely how you validated model, prompt, or agent improvements and provide the evidence
• Command of AI economics: model routing, hosted vs. self-hosted infrastructure, inference capacity, latency and cost budgets, and multi-provider portability
• Demonstrated ability to lead an organization in adopting AI capabilities before they asked for them, teaching executives and engineers alike
• Strategic mindset: you create strategy rather than administer it, and win arguments with evidence rather than authority
• Proven ownership of resourcing, workforce planning, and hiring, with a quantifiable track record
• Currently hands-on: you read and write code, critique design documents and evaluation harnesses, and command distributed systems, service architecture, data-intensive applications, and cloud infrastructure
• Experience scaling and modernizing large existing codebases without stopping the business, replacing load-bearing systems in flight
• Experience leading globally distributed, fully remote engineering teams at technology or hyper-growth companies required; two-sided marketplace or multi-tenant platform experience a significant plus
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English
• Speed, ownership, and quality: you move with urgency, decide without perfect information, and treat everything you deliver as a reflection of yourself
• You must be a world-class individual contributor—this role requires someone who builds, not just directs
