Senior Java Engineer (m/f/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential insurance technology organization seeking a Senior Java Engineer for their München location. Our client operates critical infrastructure in the European financial services sector and is looking for an experienced engineer who excels at understanding and evolving mature, complex codebases.

This role offers the chance to take ownership of core platform components and shape architectural decisions that impact thousands of users across the insurance industry.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of core components within a Java-based platform
• Analyze and understand existing architecture, dependencies, and business logic across large codebases
• Develop and implement strategies for evolving and modernizing software architecture
• Design, build, and maintain high-quality, scalable, and reliable Java applications and services
• Guide and mentor fellow engineers on architectural best practices and clean code principles
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate complex requirements into sustainable technical solutions
• Drive initiatives to improve code quality, reduce technical debt, and enhance system performance

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of experience in Java development with deep expertise in Spring Framework (especially Spring Boot) and standard libraries
• Proven ability to quickly understand and effectively manage large, complex codebases with a strategic, big-picture perspective
• Excellent understanding of software architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices
• Strategic thinking with the ability to develop and execute long-term plans for code evolution and modernization
• Experience refactoring and improving existing systems while ensuring stability and performance
• Solid understanding of databases, APIs, and the software development lifecycle
• Comfort working in dynamic, agile environments with continuous process improvement
• Strong communication skills in English; German is beneficial but not required
