About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential venture-backed fintech client in Berlin that is reimagining administrative workflows for an underserved industry. This is a founding AI Engineer role where you'll build production AI systems that handle real business operations end-to-end—from intelligent document processing to autonomous workflow agents.

Our client has taken a services-first approach: rather than building traditional software, they deliver outcomes. AI runs across customer communications, payment automation, and daily intelligence briefings. The next phase involves quote generation from multimodal inputs, measurement systems using satellite and drone imagery, natural language back-office interfaces, and self-improving pipelines that learn from every user correction.

This is a small, technical team in Berlin-Mitte. You'll own AI products from conception to production, make core architectural decisions, and work directly with end users whose livelihoods depend on what you ship.

Responsibilities

• Build and own AI features end-to-end: quote generation from voice notes, photos and documents; automated measurement systems; natural language interfaces over the full product surface
• Design and implement evaluation frameworks, benchmarks and gates that ensure AI features ship reliably
• Capture context from calls, emails, documents, images and voice to feed self-improving AI pipelines
• Develop intelligent automation for email threads, supplier communication, anti-phishing and spam protection
• Lead projects from ambiguous requirements to production, making technical and product decisions autonomously
• Build self-improving loops that use corrections, edits and rejections to enhance future outputs
• Work across the full stack (backend, web, mobile) to deliver seamless AI-driven user experiences

What We're Looking For

• 4+ years of full-stack engineering experience (exceptional engineers with less may be considered)
• Proven track record shipping AI features to production that real users depend on, with continuous iteration and improvement
• Strong full-stack TypeScript: comfortable across Node.js backend, React web, and React Native mobile
• Hands-on experience building evals, benchmarks and self-improving research loops for AI capabilities
• Creative approach to multimodal data capture (transcripts, photos, documents, voice) for AI enhancement
• Advanced prompt engineering skills: structured outputs, tool use, agents, and sound judgment on when LLMs are not the right solution
• Comfortable with ambiguity and end-to-end ownership; eager to grow with a fast-moving organization
• Bonus: experience building a fully functional AI side project you can share

Tech stack: TypeScript/Node.js/Express/Drizzle/Postgres, React/Vite/Tailwind/shadcn, React Native/Expo, Vercel AI SDK, OpenAI and Anthropic models, AWS, PostHog, Sentry

This role requires: in-office presence in Berlin (no remote or hybrid), high ownership and autonomy, outcome-focused mindset, flexibility beyond standard hours when needed

Pay

The client offers €80,000–110,000 base salary plus 0.4–0.7% equity. This represents the client's compensation structure and will be confirmed during the offer stage if you advance.
