Senior Software Engineer – SRE

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization that is building modern banking infrastructure. They are moving away from reactive firefighting toward proactive reliability engineering, and they need a Senior Software Engineer with SRE expertise to help product teams build more resilient systems.

This role involves embedding directly with product teams to improve their operational maturity. Rather than simply maintaining platform-level tools, you'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with engineers to implement reliability practices, run game day exercises, and create self-reinforcing improvements in observability and incident preparedness.

Responsibilities

• Embed with product teams to establish and refine on-call practices, monitoring, alerting, and runbook documentation
• Conduct regular game day exercises to improve incident investigation and remediation capabilities
• Work directly in application code (Haskell and TypeScript) to implement reliability patterns including retries, error handling, logging improvements, and circuit breaking
• Guide teams toward meaningful SLOs tied to customer outcomes and use those as signals for product health
• Champion reliability best practices through design document and code reviews
• Identify and close observability gaps that impact debugging, incident response, and business intelligence
• Advocate for longer-term platform improvements that benefit the entire engineering organization
• Participate in on-call rotations and help improve incident response processes and learning frameworks

What We're Looking For

• Previous Site Reliability Engineering or DevOps experience
• Demonstrated track record of influencing organizations toward greater reliability (measurable examples required)
• Significant hands-on experience with PostgreSQL
• Experience authoring and operating Temporal workflows
• Proficiency with observability platforms such as Grafana or Honeycomb
• Familiarity with OpenTelemetry
• Ability to work in Haskell and TypeScript codebases
• Strong communication skills to teach and influence product teams
• Located in Canada
