Software Engineer, Backend (BI Platform) 

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential technology client seeking a Software Engineer to build and operate the backend infrastructure powering their business intelligence platforms. You will own the services, APIs and automation that enable data-driven decision making across the organization.

In this role, you will:

• Design, build, test, deploy and operate backend services and APIs that support enterprise BI platforms
• Automate platform lifecycle operations including provisioning, metadata management, permissions, migrations and validation
• Build integrations between BI tools and the broader data ecosystem: warehouses, identity providers, orchestration systems and internal developer tools
• Improve availability, observability, performance, scalability and security of production systems
• Leverage AI tooling in your engineering workflow and build LLM-backed capabilities where appropriate
• Raise engineering standards through code review, testing, CI/CD practices and documentation
• Own problems end-to-end from discovery through design, implementation and operational support

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 3+ years professional software engineering experience building and operating production backend, platform or infrastructure systems
• Strong Python skills with readable, maintainable, well-tested code; comfort with SQL and understanding of data modelling and warehousing concepts
• Experience building and owning APIs, integrations or automation in production with sound judgement on service boundaries, authentication and failure modes
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, observability, debugging and incident response
• Practical experience using AI tools (LLMs, agentic workflows, AI-assisted development) as part of your engineering practice
• End-to-end ownership of ambiguous problems with clear communication to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Comfort self-organizing in fast-paced, distributed environments

Nice to have:

• Experience with BI platforms such as Looker, Sigma or similar tools; familiarity with semantic layers like LookML or dbt
• Experience automating identity and access through SCIM, role-based access controls, or building multi-tenant platforms
• Experience shipping LLM-backed features including retrieval, grounding and evaluation, or agent frameworks in production
