About This Role

Our talent team is representing a confidential fusion energy client based in Munich. They are building cutting-edge advanced energy systems and need an experienced Automation Engineer to support the industrialization of critical magnet production processes. This is a hands-on role at the intersection of robotics, automation design, and advanced manufacturing—ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic R&D-to-production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on future production line design and automation concepts for magnet manufacturing
  • Define requirements for automation cells across processes including welding, bonding, sealing, and coating to ensure performance, repeatability, and safe operation
  • Contribute to control strategy development for new production lines
  • Build and commission automation cells, including running Factory Acceptance Tests at supplier sites
  • Identify and test manufacturing approaches and in-process monitoring techniques
  • Design jigs and tooling for industrialized magnet production
  • Support process development and prototyping with scalability and repeatability in mind
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering and technical teams

What We're Looking For

  • Master's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline
  • Extensive experience in robotics, automation, and process monitoring in industrial settings
  • Strong hands-on production background across welding, machining, assembly, and bonding processes
  • Experience with robotic simulation and offline programming tools such as RoboGuide, RobotStudio, or Process Simulate; FANUC systems experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols including OPC UA, Ethernet, and Profinet
  • Proficiency in industrial-level PLC programming
  • Ability to work dynamically across varied technical tasks
  • Reliable, proactive, and solution-oriented mindset with strong collaboration skills
  • Comfortable experimenting, taking calculated risks, and learning from challenges

Nice to Have: Familiarity with both prototype and industrial manufacturing environments, CAD proficiency (CATIA V5 or 3DExperience), exposure to SCADA or MES integration, Beckhoff PLC and motion control experience, knowledge of safety standards and risk assessments in automated environments.
