Project Manager – Ubuntu Embedded Systems

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization in their search for a Project Manager focused on embedded systems and device enablement across the APAC region. This is a fully remote role requiring exceptional coordination across engineering teams, customers, and third-party vendors to deliver complex embedded Linux projects on schedule and within scope.

You'll oversee the complete project lifecycle for custom device implementations—from robots and edge gateways to automotive systems—managing technical delivery, stakeholder communication, and risk mitigation. This position demands strong leadership in cross-cultural, multi-continent environments and the ability to navigate demanding technical requirements with diverse internal and external partners.

Responsibilities

• Manage complete project lifecycles from initiation through delivery, ensuring goals align for both our client and their end customers
• Coordinate engineering professional services delivery for embedded systems projects involving custom board enablement and image deployment
• Develop and maintain project schedules, statements of work, and detailed project plans with client agreement and buy-in
• Ensure projects are delivered within agreed time, resource, and scope parameters
• Identify and manage project risks, creating and executing mitigation plans proactively
• Drive resolution of technical issues to achieve delivery milestones and outcomes
• Maintain regular communication cadence with clients and internal stakeholders (daily and weekly touchpoints)
• Track and manage critical third-party deliverable schedules that impact project timelines
• Provide regular status updates to management and identify scope changes or additional engineering requests
• Advocate for appropriate technical solutions from the organization's product portfolio
• Support multiple time zones and work non-traditional hours as project demands require

What We're Looking For

• Solid project management experience delivering engineering services to customers, specifically managing software development teams and field engineers
• Extensive experience managing projects with cross-cultural and multi-continent resources, ideally spanning Asia, Europe, and the Americas
• Educational degree preferably in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics
• Strong knowledge of Linux and the open-source software ecosystem, plus understanding of computer architecture
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Proven leadership and problem-solving abilities with a track record of building successful internal and external partnerships in complex organizational environments
• PMP/PMI or PRINCE2 Practitioner Certification strongly preferred
• Flexibility to work non-standard hours supporting a worldwide team
• Willingness to travel up to four times annually for team events
