Legal Counsel

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a Legal Counsel to join their Legal & Compliance team in London. This is a hybrid role requiring three days in office and two days working from home. Our client is transforming the global payments landscape with cutting-edge technology, and they need a commercially focused lawyer to provide front-line guidance across all areas of the business.

You will work closely with senior legal leadership and the wider business to support a broad range of commercial and legal matters, gaining significant exposure to the day-to-day operations of a fast-paced, international organization. This is a generalist role offering a high level of commercial involvement and the opportunity to make a real impact.

Responsibilities

• Review, draft, and negotiate a range of complex commercial agreements
• Deliver legal and strategic advice across various matters including financial regulation, payments ecosystem, contracts, negotiations, employment, compliance, IP, IT, marketing, and data protection
• Support commercial teams and wider business in discussions with customers, partners, and suppliers
• Identify legal and regulatory risks related to new products and market expansion
• Prepare and deliver training to the business on relevant legal and commercial issues
• Drive continuous improvement in operating practices and processes, identifying inefficiencies and areas for improvement

What We're Looking For

• Qualified lawyer with 1-2+ years post-qualification experience, ideally within startups, fintech, or payments
• Sound business judgment with the ability to identify, analyze, and mitigate risks while maximizing commercial opportunities
• Strong problem-solving skills and creative thinking to work effectively with stakeholders across the business
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal issues in layman's terms
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and tight deadlines
• Meticulous attention to detail in drafting, advising on, and negotiating commercial agreements
• Hands-on approach with confidence to handle complex legal matters and provide direction to senior stakeholders
• Expertise in financial services regulation and licensing processes for the payments industry (highly desirable)
