About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential energy technology client in their search for a Senior Product Manager - Charging & Tax based in London, UK. This is a critical individual-contributor role owning the complete product vision and roadmap for billing charges and taxation within a sophisticated B2B platform that serves utility clients globally.
You will be the domain authority for how energy usage, tariffs, and regulatory tax requirements translate into accurate charges on customer bills. Your scope includes tax configuration, exemption rules, cross-jurisdiction compliance, and the flow of charge and tax data into finance systems and ERP platforms. The goal is to enable clients to configure their own tax rules, launch in new markets confidently, and close month-end without manual reconciliation or compliance risk.
Responsibilities
- Own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Charging domain with taxation as a first-class concern
- Drive the shift to client self-service so organizations can configure products, charges, tax rates, and exemptions without developer involvement
- Define requirements for tax calculation, third-party tax integrations, accruals, future cost estimation, and cost-of-usage reporting
- Understand and coordinate cross-domain integration across charging, issuance, cost calculation, ledger, and ERP systems
- Lead trade-off discussions with Engineering, Billing, Payments, and Debt teams, bringing problems and requirements to engineering while leaving solution design to technical teams
- Act as the voice of the client for charging and tax, ensuring new market tax configurations are supported through the core platform rather than one-off customizations
- Ensure clean compliance outcomes, accurate on-time tax reporting, and zero misbilling incidents attributable to charging or tax
- Measure success by billing accuracy, client self-service adoption, market coverage, and clean audit and regulatory outcomes
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years in product management, ideally in financial systems, billing platforms, or tax systems, owning a complex backend area end to end
- Hands-on taxation experience in a product or systems context: configuration, exemptions, cross-jurisdiction rules, and the difference between transaction-level and document-level tax
- Systems thinking across charging, issuance, cost calculation, ledger, and ERP; able to reason about dependencies and edge cases, not just happy-path scenarios
- Track record of translating regulatory and finance requirements into product without being prescriptive about engineering implementation
- Advanced AI fluency: you use AI hands-on to explore problems, stress-test decisions, and accelerate decision-making
- Strong written communication, anchoring decisions in evidence and presenting options with clear trade-offs
- Fluency in English required; comfortable working across cultures, time zones, and with regional teams
Bonus qualifications:
- Experience with third-party tax integrations or tax calculation engines
- Utilities or energy domain experience
- Exposure to ERP or general ledger integrations
- Multi-market or international rollout experience
- Familiarity with accruals or cost accounting
