Responsibilities
We are representing a fast-growing SaaS organization seeking an Engineering Manager - Java based in Bordeaux. In this role, you will lead a distributed engineering team building innovative solutions that leverage AI technology.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Taking ownership of technical delivery, conducting code reviews, and actively contributing to design, development, testing, and production deployments
- Coordinating cross-functional delivery by developing roadmaps, aligning priorities with other technical leads, and partnering with product and design teams to deliver high-quality work at velocity
- Leading and growing a team of 4-5 developers through one-on-ones, performance reviews, and fostering team cohesion across distributed locations
- Establishing and championing best practices in clean code, testing, and pair programming
- Removing technical blockers, making arbitration decisions, and ensuring the team meets its commitments
- Ensuring successful onboarding of new team members and identifying opportunities to develop talent
- Contributing to recruitment efforts to build a strong engineering team
- Participating in the adoption of AI within products and internal practices
What We're Looking For
Required Experience:
- At least 5 years of Java development experience with recent versions
- Minimum 2 years in a team lead or similar management role with proven experience mentoring developers
- Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on technical contribution with people management responsibilities
- Track record of successfully delivering complex projects in a microservices environment
- Professional proficiency in English
Technical Skills:
- Strong expertise in Java (recent versions)
- Experience with Spring Framework
- Proficiency in SQL
- Knowledge of cloud platforms
- Deep understanding of microservices architecture
- Strong technical decision-making and problem-solving abilities
- Commitment to clean code and engineering best practices
Leadership Skills:
- Proven team leadership and mentoring capabilities
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to motivate and develop technical talent
Location: This position is based in Bordeaux with one day of remote work per week.
