About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing UK fintech organization seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead engineering teams in Cardiff and across the UK. This is a manager-of-managers role overseeing an organization of approximately 20-30 engineers, including 2-3 Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, and Senior Engineers as direct reports.

Our client operates cross-functional, mission-driven teams that value autonomy and direct ownership. You'll be accountable for technical outcomes, delivery excellence, and building an inclusive environment where engineering talent thrives. This role requires strong technical judgment paired with proven people leadership—you'll support managers, scale teams, and partner closely with Product and Technical Leads.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop 2-3 Engineering Managers and approximately 20-30 engineers across multiple squads
• Take accountability for delivery and technical outcomes across your organization
• Build, structure, and grow new squads as the engineering organization expands
• Foster engineering and operational excellence, setting and maintaining a high technical bar
• Partner with senior engineers to drive technical initiatives that elevate engineering practices
• Provide continuous feedback, coaching, and career development through regular one-on-ones
• Build strong stakeholder relationships and create focused environments for engineers to do their best work
• Collaborate across the wider engineering organization to shape company-wide managerial and technical standards

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience managing 2-3+ Engineering Managers and leading engineering organizations of ~20+ people
• Strong technical background with previous hands-on software engineering experience (this is not a coding role, but technical depth is essential)
• Track record of accountability for delivery across multiple teams, partnering effectively with Technical Leads and Product Managers
• Demonstrated ability to coach and develop engineering managers through their career progression
• Experience driving technical excellence and clearly articulating engineering standards
• Skill in building stakeholder relationships and influencing technical direction
• Passion for creating inclusive team environments where diverse talent can thrive
• Experience with system design and technical architecture discussions at a senior level

Location: Cardiff or remote within the UK. Our client values flexibility—you can work where you're most effective. Occasional travel to London may be required, with expenses covered.
