About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential mobile gaming client in Hamburg that is building high-performing consumer products at scale. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of data engineering, machine learning, data science, and analytics—building the data foundation that powers an entire business.
As a Senior AI Data Expert, you'll be a true generalist who moves to wherever the highest-value data problem exists. This isn't about maintaining pipelines or following predefined processes. Our client expects engineering mindset and entrepreneurial ownership: you build it, you own it, and you see the impact in production.
What makes this role distinctive is how deeply AI is integrated into daily work. You'll use Claude and similar AI tools not as occasional helpers, but as core instruments for planning, building, debugging, and documenting. You'll manage context and memory across projects, integrate AI directly into version control workflows, and run parallel agent workflows on separate tasks. The philosophy is simple: a small team of engineers working closely with AI can outperform a much larger traditional data team.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines on Databricks to integrate data from app, web, and marketing partner sources
- Build and manage the Data Lakehouse on Databricks, including migrating legacy data products and implementing transformations using PySpark
- Monitor and maintain the data stack for nightly and near-real-time processing, continuously optimizing pipelines for quality and integrity
- Turn open business questions into decision-ready analysis when that represents the highest-value work
- Use Claude and similar AI tools daily to plan, build, debug, and document pipelines as a core part of your workflow
- Integrate AI directly into version control using Git worktrees to run several AI-assisted branches of work in parallel
- Maintain structured project context for AI tools through instruction files, ensuring they stay accurate as codebases grow
- Run multiple AI coding agents on separate tickets simultaneously, reviewing and integrating their output
- Move fluidly across data engineering, machine learning, data science, and analytics work based on team needs
- Stay current with industry best practices and emerging technologies in data engineering and applied AI
What We're Looking For
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, or related field, or bootcamp experience
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience across data engineering, machine learning, data science, or analytics
- Real experience in at least two of these disciplines, with comfort picking up others as needed
- At least one year of current, hands-on depth with Databricks—designing, implementing, and optimizing ETL processes (not brief or dated exposure)
- Hands-on experience with AWS services such as S3, Kinesis, and Lambda or similar technologies
- Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines and PostgreSQL is a plus
- Genuine AI fluency: daily, hands-on use of AI tools like Claude across planning, building, debugging, and documentation—this is non-negotiable
- Ability to set up and maintain project context and memory for AI coding tools using structured instructions and reusable prompts
- Comfort running several tickets in parallel with AI assistance using Git worktrees or similar approaches
- High proficiency in Python, SQL, and PySpark, writing clean, maintainable, production-ready code
- Excellent problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Fluent English, both verbal and written
- Genuine openness to a way of working where AI reshapes how data teams operate, not just tolerance of it
