Senior Backend Engineer (Python & TypeScript, Microservices & Data Pipelines)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential client in the B2B data intelligence space. This is a senior individual-contributor role where you will own backend systems end-to-end. You'll design, build, and operate microservices in both Python and TypeScript, working across data pipelines, API services, and integrations that power a data-intensive platform.

Your day-to-day will include:

• Designing and maintaining Python and Node.js microservices with clear service boundaries, APIs, and data flows
• Building and optimizing data pipelines for crawling, enrichment, and analysis, orchestrated with workflow tools like Prefect
• Modeling data and optimizing PostgreSQL performance through schema design, migrations, indexing, and query tuning
• Working with asynchronous messaging systems and background job queues to ensure resilient, idempotent processing
• Integrating LLM APIs into production workflows with a focus on reliability, observability, and cost efficiency
• Owning features from requirements through deployment and production monitoring
• Improving observability and performance across distributed services, including tracing, metrics, and failure analysis
• Driving architecture decisions, writing technical design docs, and mentoring engineers through code review and pairing
• Contributing to internal automation and tooling as needed

What We're Looking For

You are an experienced backend engineer comfortable working across languages and systems. You take ownership, ship iteratively, and use AI tools to accelerate your work.

Required:

• 6+ years of professional backend development, with at least 4 years of Python in production environments
• 2+ years of professional TypeScript/Node.js experience building backend services (frameworks like Encore, NestJS, Fastify, or Express)
• Deep familiarity with modern Python: async/await, type hints, FastAPI or similar frameworks, Pydantic, pytest
• Strong understanding of microservice architecture, including service decomposition, API design, resiliency, idempotency, and observability
• Production experience with PostgreSQL: schema design, migrations, and query optimization
• Hands-on experience with message queues or workflow orchestration tools (Prefect, Celery, NSQ, RabbitMQ, Kafka, or similar)
• Track record of owning production systems end-to-end, including incident response and performance tuning
• Active use of AI tools in daily development work, with the ability to apply them effectively for code generation, testing, and problem-solving
• Clear communication skills, ownership mindset, and a bias toward shipping

Nice to Have:

• Experience with Encore specifically
• Web scraping and crawling at scale: rate limiting, proxy management, anti-bot handling, content extraction
• Production work with LLM APIs: structured outputs, evaluation, prompt versioning, cost and latency optimization, MCP servers
• Familiarity with LLM observability and evaluation tools
• Experience with observability stacks (Grafana, Tempo, OpenTelemetry)
• Analytics tooling (PostHog, ClickHouse)
• Docker and cloud deployment experience (Railway, AWS, GCP); Infrastructure as Code basics
• Security best practices: OWASP, OAuth2/JWT, secrets management, GDPR-aware data handling
• Experience integrating with email or CRM systems (IMAP, Gmail API, Microsoft Graph, HubSpot, Zoho)
• Background in the M&A, private equity, or B2B data intelligence domain

Technology environment includes: Python microservices, Encore (TypeScript/Node.js), Prefect, NSQ, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Railway, Docker, GitHub Actions, Grafana, Tempo, PostHog, and LLM APIs in production.
