Senior AI-Native Data Engineer (f/m/x)

About This Role

We are representing a confidential client in the mobile gaming sector based in Hamburg. They are scaling a high-traffic user engagement platform where data engineering directly impacts product performance and business outcomes. This is an opportunity for an experienced data engineer who treats AI as a core part of their daily workflow, not an occasional productivity tool.

As a Senior AI-Native Data Engineer, you'll build and own the data infrastructure that powers their entire platform. This isn't about maintaining existing pipelines or following prescribed processes—you'll design, build, and take full ownership of systems that process data at scale. The expectation is clear: you use Claude and similar AI tools daily across planning, development, debugging, and documentation, managing context across projects and running parallel agent workflows to maximize velocity.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines on Databricks, integrating data from app, web, and marketing partner sources
• Build and manage the Data Lakehouse architecture, including legacy data product migrations and transformation logic using Databricks and PySpark
• Monitor and optimize the data stack for both nightly batch processing and near-real-time tracking solutions
• Use AI tools daily—not occasionally—to plan, build, debug, and document pipelines as a core part of your engineering practice
• Integrate AI directly into version control workflows using Git worktrees or equivalent approaches to run multiple AI-assisted branches in parallel
• Maintain structured project context for AI tools (such as instruction files) to ensure accuracy and usefulness as codebases grow
• Run multiple AI coding agents on separate tasks simultaneously, reviewing and integrating their output rather than writing every line serially
• Collaborate with engineering and ML teams to ensure seamless data integration across the platform
• Continuously improve data quality, pipeline performance, and system reliability

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 4 years of professional experience in data engineering roles
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent bootcamp experience
• Current, deep hands-on experience with Databricks—at least one year of recent, production-level work designing and optimizing ETL processes, not brief or outdated exposure
• Proficiency with AWS services including S3, Kinesis, and Lambda or similar cloud technologies
• Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and PySpark for data manipulation and processing
• Genuine AI fluency: daily, hands-on use of tools like Claude across all phases of work—planning, building, debugging, and documentation. This is a core requirement, not optional
• Demonstrated ability to set up and maintain project context and memory for AI coding tools using structured instructions and reusable prompts
• Experience running parallel work streams with AI assistance using Git worktrees or similar approaches, with the ability to explain your actual workflow in detail
• Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
• Fluent English communication, both written and verbal
• Openness to AI fundamentally reshaping how data engineering teams operate, not just tolerance of new tools
• Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines and PostgreSQL is a plus
