Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential aerospace organization seeking a Senior Systems Engineer based in Munich, Bavaria. In this role, you will serve as the technical lead responsible for complex satellite missions from development through on-orbit verification.

Your core responsibilities include:

  • Taking overall technical ownership of space and ground systems, ensuring the right solutions are built correctly from development through verification
  • Leading requirements management for missions and programs, including development, validation, verification, and change management
  • Managing technical risk identification, qualification, mitigation, and resolution
  • Developing top-level requirements and flowing them down to lower-levels, collaborating with discipline leads and subject matter experts
  • Serving as the primary technical point of contact for customers and contractors, communicating on behalf of internal technical teams
  • Representing customer requirements and expectations to internal teams
  • Developing working knowledge of satellite platforms, operations systems, and payloads including APIs and software service interfaces
  • Communicating proactively with program and project managers regarding changes in scope, requirements, or expected performance
  • Developing and maintaining mission documentation for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting sales engineering during technical concept development, feasibility assessments, and requirements definition

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

  • BSc in Engineering, Computer Science, equivalent STEM-related subject, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience working in a technical engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Controls, RF Communications, etc.) or as a systems engineer for complex integrated systems
  • Comprehensive understanding of space systems, concepts of operations, and remote systems operation

Preferred qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience as a space systems engineer working across engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Controls, Radio/Comms, etc.)
  • Experience developing or integrating RF and optical payloads
  • Experience participating in architecture and design of digital systems including ground station networks, data distribution and processing systems, and spacecraft data handling systems
  • Experience coordinating or leading diverse technical teams spanning multiple engineering disciplines and time zones
  • Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships with clients and communicating effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong comprehension skills to understand complex customer requirements and identify thorough solutions
  • Experience in satellite mission design, development, and testing with understanding of major mission design trades (power/payload duty cycle, communications systems/data budgets, ground stations, launch and environmental loads, EMI/EMC, thermal management, etc.)

Additional notes:

  • This position operates on a hybrid work model requiring a minimum of three days per week in the Munich office
  • Access to US export-controlled software and/or technology may be required. If needed, necessary licenses will be arranged by the employer
