Senior SQL Server Database Administrator

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology organization in Portugal seeking a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator. Our client operates complex production environments integrated with Azure cloud infrastructure and requires an experienced professional to lead database operations with strong technical ownership.

This is a remote-friendly position based in Portugal, offering the opportunity to work on enterprise-scale database systems alongside expert technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Administer Microsoft SQL Server databases in production environments integrated with Azure cloud services
• Manage Always-On Availability Groups, Failover Cluster Instances, and storage account operations
• Lead technical resolution of SQL Server incidents through diagnosis, remediation, and structured root cause analysis
• Execute and validate production releases using deployment automation tools
• Perform query tuning, T-SQL optimization, and execution plan analysis to maintain system performance
• Administer and optimize Azure SQL, Azure Pipelines, Azure Monitor, and Azure Event Hub
• Enforce security controls, permissions management, and maintain audit-quality documentation
• Collaborate with application teams, infrastructure partners, and release management stakeholders
• Contribute to operational runbooks and drive continuous improvement initiatives

What We're Looking For

• University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or comparable technical field
• 5-10 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server in production environments
• Proven track record in incident management, production support, and performance tuning
• Strong Azure platform experience (mandatory requirement)
• Experience with Always-On Availability Groups and Failover Cluster Instances
• Proficiency in T-SQL, query optimization, and execution plan analysis
• Familiarity with Azure SQL, Azure Pipelines, Azure Monitor, and related services
• Strong problem-solving skills with ability to work independently on complex technical issues
• Excellent documentation and communication skills
