Senior Software Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential nonprofit organization in the education sector that is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Cloud and Platform Security Engineering team. This is a fully remote position available to candidates across the United States, with optional hybrid arrangements for those near office locations.

Our client's security engineering team builds and maintains the cloud foundation that powers critical applications and services. You'll work on designing, automating, and operationalizing scalable security controls that make secure deployments the default across AWS environments. This is a proactive, engineering-focused role—not a reactive review function—where you'll implement preventive and detective controls that reduce systemic risk while enabling development teams to move quickly.

Responsibilities

Strengthen Cloud Guardrails and Preventive Controls (50%)

• Design, implement, and operationalize automated preventive and detective guardrails across enterprise cloud environments
• Build and enforce enterprise-wide controls that prevent or automatically remediate high-risk misconfigurations
• Improve protection coverage for internet-facing systems by validating asset inventories and expanding enforcement mechanisms
• Evaluate control effectiveness through telemetry, compliance validation, and risk trend analysis
• Partner with cloud platform teams to embed secure-by-default infrastructure patterns into reusable modules and deployment workflows

Advance Vulnerability Management and Security Automation (30%)

• Enhance and operationalize Unified Vulnerability Management workflows to improve prioritization, remediation velocity, and cross-team accountability
• Increase automation across vulnerability intake, enrichment, ticketing, and response workflows to reduce manual triage burden
• Design and deliver engineering solutions that improve detection quality and response speed in collaboration with security operations teams
• Translate security requirements into scalable technical implementations using infrastructure-as-code and automation frameworks
• Measure and report on workflow efficiency and risk reduction outcomes using operational metrics

Improve Security Posture Visibility and CSPM Continuity (20%)

• Design and implement standardized, automated security checks across prioritized domains including code security, cloud security posture management, and vulnerability management
• Establish a quantifiable product security maturity model backed by telemetry and security scorecard outputs
• Ensure continuity of cloud security posture management coverage and dependent tool integrations throughout platform transitions
• Deliver proof-of-concept implementations of security tools and address capability gaps through engineering solutions
• Contribute to documentation, engineering standards, and continuous improvement practices that promote long-term maintainability

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated full stack proficiency using JavaScript and TypeScript
• Deep understanding of Amazon Web Services including IAM, KMS, EC2, Event Bridge, ECS, Config, CloudTrail, CloudFormation, and Lambda
• Experience with AWS infrastructure-as-code tools such as CloudFormation, CDK, or Serverless Framework
• Working knowledge of IP networking, VPNs, DNS, load balancing, and firewalling
• Experience establishing software engineering guidelines and performing code and design reviews
• Experience documenting design and architecture artifacts and presenting for architectural review
• Comfort operating in fast-moving environments where you proactively define guardrails rather than waiting for direction
• Authorization to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with pair programming or mob programming methodologies
• Experience in DevOps and CI/CD automation and tooling
• Strong knowledge of cloud security, application security, and security engineering
• Experience working as part of a Platform Engineering team or contributing to open-source projects
• AWS professional level certification or AWS Security Specialty certification
• Database experience with SQL and/or NoSQL
• Experience with advanced Agentic Engineering or AI Development Lifecycle

Pay

Our client has indicated a compensation range of $153,000 - $166,000 for this position, with exact salary depending on location, experience, and qualifications. Final compensation details will be discussed during the interview process.
