(Senior) AI Product Engineer (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential legal technology organization based in Berlin. They are seeking a Senior AI Product Engineer to drive AI innovation across their product portfolio. This is a high-impact role where you'll identify opportunities, build solutions end-to-end, and serve as the AI technical authority across product teams.

You'll split your time between independent AI projects and supporting existing squads with technical guidance on feasibility, model selection, and compliance considerations relevant to the legal domain.

Responsibilities

• Identify and validate high-impact AI opportunities in legal workflows through rapid prototyping and stakeholder discussions
• Build production-ready AI solutions independently: routing, chaining, summarization, and agent-based systems
• Hand off mature features to product squads with complete documentation, evaluations, and transition plans
• Advise product teams on AI feasibility, cost modeling, model selection, and risk assessment before launch
• Design and implement evaluations, golden datasets, and guardrails for AI features
• Review technical concepts for prompt injection risks and compliance with GDPR and domain-specific regulations
• Establish AI engineering standards including prompt engineering practices, LLM observability, and agent-based workflows

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• Proven track record shipping multiple production AI/LLM systems to real users with full ownership from concept to deployment
• Strong Python skills with solid software engineering fundamentals (Git, testing, CI/CD, code review)
• Deep hands-on experience with LangGraph, LangChain, or similar frameworks including understanding of underlying mechanics
• Proficiency with LLM provider APIs including function/tool calling, structured outputs, and streaming
• Experience designing evaluations, golden datasets, and pre-deployment guardrails
• Advanced prompt engineering skills with knowledge of when to apply specific techniques
• Business-level English required; German is a significant advantage due to the legal domain

Working Style:

• Ability to work independently without direct team structure, setting your own priorities and boundaries
• Skill in translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and domain workflows for engineers
• Product ownership mindset with ability to drive vague problems to finished solutions

Work Arrangement

This is an office-first position in Berlin requiring three days per week on-site, with two days remote flexibility. The office is centrally located between Gleisdreieck and Potsdamer Platz with modern amenities including air conditioning, natural light, and a rooftop terrace.
