Head of Accounting (m/w/d) – Get A Job.ai Ventures

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential venture capital firm seeking a Head of Accounting to build their entire accounting function from the ground up. In this senior leadership role, you will have full ownership of establishing how accounting, reporting, and financial processes operate across a complex international portfolio. This is a partner-level position where you will serve as a strategic peer to executive leadership.

Your core responsibilities include:

• Building the accounting department from scratch, including foundational structures, processes, systems, and tools
• Developing and implementing scalable accounting and reporting frameworks that support international portfolio growth across Europe, Asia, and Latin America
• Independently selecting and implementing technical infrastructure including accounting software, automation solutions, and system integrations
• Recruiting, building, and leading your own team with both professional and disciplinary oversight
• Serving as the primary point of contact for partners and executive management on all finance and accounting matters, contributing strategic insights
• Ensuring compliance, clean financial statements, and reliable reporting across multiple portfolio companies while maintaining an entrepreneurial perspective

What We're Looking For

• Several years of accounting experience, ideally with team-building or leadership responsibility
• Experience in venture capital, incubation, or startup environments is a strong advantage, particularly managing multiple portfolio entities simultaneously
• Technical understanding of modern accounting systems and a drive to digitize processes rather than simply maintain them
• The judgment to know when strict adherence to rules is necessary and when pragmatic solutions are appropriate in a fast-growing, hands-on environment
• Hands-on mentality combined with strategic thinking at a partner level
• Full commitment and focus—this is a foundational leadership role, not a side project
• Strong German language skills required for this Hamburg-based position
