About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential cloud technology organization seeking a Sr. Software Engineer II to join their distributed team across the United States. This is a remote position where you'll own the technical direction of a key product domain, establish modern engineering standards, and help shape how the organization adopts AI-assisted development practices responsibly.
You'll work at the intersection of platform architecture and engineering leadership—defining patterns that help teams deliver secure, observable, and maintainable software at scale. This role goes beyond writing code; you'll influence technical strategy, mentor engineers, and build systems that eliminate recurring problems across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Set technical strategy for a major product domain, guiding architecture and engineering standards across multiple teams
- Design resilient distributed systems using event-driven and cloud-native patterns that support long-term product growth
- Establish practical standards for distributed tracing, structured logging, service-level objectives, alerting, and production reliability
- Lead collaborative technical design reviews and document architectural decisions so teams can move forward with clarity
- Identify recurring engineering challenges and create system-level solutions that improve productivity organization-wide
- Partner with product and data science colleagues to translate business needs into scalable technical designs
- Define meaningful measures of engineering quality, including test coverage, deployment performance, and incident trends
- Own critical systems throughout their lifecycle and participate in on-call support when required
- Mentor engineers in system design, software quality, domain ownership, and responsible use of AI tools
- Establish clear safeguards for AI-assisted development, including validation checkpoints and review expectations
- Evaluate emerging development tools and guide adoption when they offer genuine value to the engineering organization
- Use AI thoughtfully to explore design options, support complex refactoring, strengthen testing, and produce clear technical documentation
What We're Looking For
- Extensive software engineering experience, including ownership of complex production systems and technical leadership across multiple teams
- Expert proficiency in Python and TypeScript, supported by deep knowledge of a significant product or technical domain
- Proven ability to define architecture, establish engineering standards, and guide technical decisions proactively
- Strong expertise in distributed system design, including event sourcing, CQRS, microservices, and service mesh patterns
- Extensive experience with Amazon Web Services, Kubernetes, cloud-native infrastructure, and platform reliability engineering
- A systems-first mindset with the ability to replace recurring fixes with durable solutions
- Demonstrated success leading platform, infrastructure, developer experience, or engineering productivity initiatives
- The ability to connect technical decisions with business problems, customer needs, and complete system lifecycle
- Proven experience mentoring engineers and improving team technical judgment, documentation, and delivery practices
- Advanced capability with AI coding tools for complex analysis, multi-file changes, automated test generation, and large-scale refactoring
- Sound judgment about AI capabilities and limitations, including when human review must remain non-negotiable
- Responsible approach to data classification, privacy, bias mitigation, fairness, transparency, and validation of AI-generated output
- Experience creating clear technical proposals and architectural decision records
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- Collaborative approach grounded in curiosity, ownership, candid feedback, and continuous learning
- Ability to maintain adequate, secure, and private internet service for remote work
- Flexibility for infrequent travel when collaboration or business needs require it
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
