Senior Java Engineer (m/f/d) – Team Search

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential mobility technology company seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join their customer-facing Search team. This is your chance to work on systems that handle millions of daily search requests across a network spanning thousands of destinations in over 40 countries.

The Search team owns a critical component of the booking experience, focusing on delivering fast, intuitive results without overwhelming users. You'll join an autonomous, cross-functional squad that includes product, engineering, data, and UX partners who have built and scaled this search engine together. The team values honest retrospectives, efficient standups, and genuine ownership from concept through production.

Responsibilities

• Architect and maintain systems processing millions of search requests daily from web, mobile, and partner platforms
• Generate complex inventory solutions enabling customers to reach destinations across an extensive international network
• Apply graph theory and algorithmic thinking to solve sophisticated routing and search challenges
• Write SOLID, maintainable, flexible, testable, and scalable code using Java and JVM-based frameworks
• Design components and integrations with careful consideration for scalability, maintainability, and reliability
• Champion better engineering practices and adapt workflows to improve team efficiency
• Prioritize and plan technical debt reduction with the team; drive strategies to prevent recurring debt
• Ensure code observability and design monitoring strategies for new components
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deliver positive impact with each release
• Participate actively in agile development processes to advance the search product

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent industry experience
• 7+ years of commercial experience as a Java Engineer
• Strong expertise with Java/JVM-based frameworks such as Micronaut or Spring Boot
• Solution-oriented mindset with ability to translate business vision into technical implementation
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and AWS
• Proficiency with relational database management systems such as MySQL
• Solid experience with distributed messaging systems like Kafka

Preferred:

• Experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch
• Knowledge of Redis and Terraform
• Familiarity with CI/CD best practices including unit testing, integration testing, and GitLab CI
• Background working with scalable systems handling high volumes of requests and data
