About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare technology organization in their search for an AI Tooling Engineer. This is a unique opportunity to build AI-powered internal tools from the ground up, working directly with leadership to transform how operations, customer success, finance, and other teams get work done.

This role sits at the intersection of engineering and business impact. You'll embed with non-technical teams, identify manual workflows that slow them down, and ship AI agents and automations that get adopted immediately. This isn't a research position or pure infrastructure work—it's a build-fast, talk-to-humans, own-the-problem role where you'll define what internal AI looks like for the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Partner directly with executive leadership to identify the highest-leverage operational problems to solve with AI tooling
  • Embed with teams across operations, customer success, finance, talent acquisition, and data to understand their workflows and pain points
  • Build and ship AI agents, automations, and workflow tools that save teams hours of manual work—examples include agents that draft responses from knowledge bases, Slack-based approval workflows, internal eval harnesses for LLM features, and plain-language query tools
  • Wire together systems using APIs, webhooks, SaaS integrations, and async workflows
  • Iterate quickly based on real user feedback and drive adoption across business teams
  • Establish baseline practices for evals, prompt management, and safe LLM deployment as the foundation for future growth
  • Own problems end-to-end from discovery through deployment and maintenance

What We're Looking For

  • 1–3 years building software in areas such as backend services, internal tools, automations, or API-driven applications (internships and co-ops count)
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript and/or Python
  • Hands-on experience building something with LLMs—whether an agent, RAG pipeline, copilot, or prompt-driven tool—through work, side projects, or coursework
  • Comfortable integrating systems: APIs, webhooks, SaaS platforms, async workflows
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders, understand their real needs, and drive tool adoption
  • Thrives in ambiguous environments and moves fast, iterating from real feedback
  • Energized by ownership and shipping rough tools quickly rather than perfect specs slowly

Bonus experience (not required):

  • Building copilots, agents, or workflow automations
  • Using orchestration frameworks like LangChain or Temporal
  • Working with vector databases or retrieval systems
  • Integrating with platforms like Salesforce, Slack, Zendesk, Notion, or Jira
  • Startup or high-growth company experience

Success in this role looks like: Shipping your first internal tool within weeks that sees daily use, having 2–3 live tools and stakeholder-driven requests within 2 months, and establishing the team's foundational practices for safe LLM deployment by month 3.
