About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization seeking a Developer Relations Engineer for the APAC and EMEA regions. Our client serves millions of developers working across cloud, IoT, and data science ecosystems. This role sits within a newly formed Developer Relations team focused on engaging open-source communities and gathering direct feedback to shape product direction.
As a Developer Relations Engineer, you'll combine technical expertise with strategic communication, serving as a bridge between developer communities and our client's engineering teams. You'll work to improve developer experiences while staying current with technology trends and fostering innovation across the open-source landscape.
Responsibilities
- Participate in product strategy meetings and day-to-day development discussions, contributing technical insight and expertise
- Maintain active engagement with developer communities across IRC, social media, forums, meetups, and other channels
- Collaborate across organizational teams to establish consistent approaches and common practices
- Troubleshoot specific technical challenges identified by users or colleagues
- Contribute to technical documentation ensuring developer needs are comprehensively addressed
- Develop technical articles, presentations, and workshops for various audiences
- Identify opportunities for improvement in the overall developer experience
- Present at conferences, meetups, and technical events globally
What We're Looking For
Required qualifications:
- Demonstrable programming or development background with passion for open-source software
- Real-world experience developing and deploying software on Linux systems
- Practical hands-on experience with Linux software packaging (Snaps, debs, charms, rocks, PIP, containers)
- Understanding of current software packaging issues and trends in the Linux ecosystem
- Track record as a contributor to open-source communities, software, and documentation
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills with engaging delivery style
- Ability to work effectively and tactfully in situations involving multiple stakeholders with different perspectives
- Excellent relationship-building and trust-establishment capabilities
- Willingness to travel globally twice yearly for company events and to attend upstream and partner events
Preferred qualifications:
- Previous experience in developer advocacy or community management roles
- In-depth familiarity with Linux distributions and related ecosystems
