Engineering Manager, Data & Analytics

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking an Engineering Manager for their Data & Analytics team. This is a player-coach role where you will lead a team of 4-5 engineers while remaining meaningfully hands-on. You will own team delivery, drive stakeholder alignment, and bring the technical depth needed to develop your engineers and maintain architectural integrity.

In this role, you will:

• Lead and develop a team of 4-5 data engineers, providing coaching, unblocking delivery challenges, and building a product-minded engineering culture
• Own the team's roadmap sequencing, negotiating priorities with product stakeholders and finding constructive compromises
• Balance dual responsibilities between maintaining a self-service data platform and delivering product features
• Guide the team through an active transition involving data streaming technologies
• Raise the bar on data modeling practices across the team
• Drive a cultural and technical shift toward distributed data ownership, empowering product teams to progressively own their own data
• Collaborate with the broader staff engineering community on cross-cutting architectural decisions
• Build foundations for AI data governance, including guardrails, access control, and safety considerations for AI agents interacting with data

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Proven experience at Staff Engineer level or equivalent in a data engineering context—you have been deep in technical work and now want to lead people
• A genuine player-coach mindset with the ability to balance management and technical contributions
• Strong stakeholder management skills with the confidence to push back and reach workable compromises
• Solid data modeling skills and the credibility to make it a team-wide standard
• Experience managing or developing engineers, including coaching technical fundamentals and growing product thinking
• Strong communication skills and ability to drive cultural change
• Comfort operating across both platform and product delivery contexts

Nice to have:

• Experience with data governance for AI agents, including guardrails and access control
• Familiarity with data lakes, semantic layers, and orchestration tooling at scale
• Experience in a product-led B2B SaaS environment
• Hands-on streaming experience with technologies like Kafka or Flink

This position is based in Dresden, Sachsen, with flexible working arrangements available.
