Senior Database Reliability Engineer

We are representing a confidential technology client seeking a Senior Database Reliability Engineer to join their remote team. This position offers the opportunity to architect, optimize, and maintain mission-critical PostgreSQL environments at scale within a cloud-native infrastructure. Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage highly available PostgreSQL database architectures using AWS RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL
• Optimize database performance through query execution plan analysis, index tuning, and advanced partitioning strategies
• Ensure disaster recovery readiness by maintaining robust backup, replication, and failover processes
• Diagnose and resolve complex database issues including slow queries, locks, deadlocks, and performance bottlenecks
• Automate routine maintenance tasks and drive operational excellence across database environments
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new features, data migrations, and application scaling initiatives
• Maintain comprehensive documentation and communicate technical concepts clearly

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience managing and optimizing PostgreSQL databases in production environments
• Expert-level knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, query tuning, indexing, partitioning, and replication
• Hands-on experience with AWS RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL, including backup, recovery, and high-availability design
• Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting slow queries, execution plans, locks, and deadlocks
• Demonstrated experience maintaining large-scale, high-traffic databases with millions of rows
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to clarity and detail
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team setting

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting data platforms, analytics workloads, ETL processes, and operational databases
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with cloud-native architectures and advanced monitoring tools
